The 19th round EuroLeague game between Partizan and Maccabi turned into an unforgettable event, both on the court and beyond. The black-and-whites claimed a convincing victory with a resounding score of 98:75, showcasing an exceptional level of play. However, the evening will be remembered not only for the result but also for the touching moments that highlighted the human side of sports.
Grobari Initiative: Plush Toys for Children
Before the match, Partizan fans, the famous Grobari, organized a heartfelt initiative to support sick children. As the iconic song “Da Volim Crno-Bele” played, the stands erupted with emotions, and spectators began throwing plush toys onto the court. These toys will be donated to children’s hospitals after the game. This gesture was met with applause and approval, reminding everyone that sports are not just about competition but also about making the world a better place.
Moment of Silence for Tragedy Victims
The game began with a moment of silence to honor the victims of the Cetinje tragedy. This poignant moment brought everyone in attendance together, showcasing solidarity and respect.
Vibrant Support and Diplomatic Presence
Among the thousands of fans in the stands was U.S. Ambassador to Serbia, Christopher Hill. The American diplomat cheered for Partizan and, according to eyewitnesses, was thrilled by the match’s atmosphere. His presence at the game sparked interest not only among fans but also in international sports circles.
A Triumphant Victory on the Court
The game, held as part of the 19th round of the EuroLeague, ended with Partizan’s decisive victory, 98:75. From the first quarter, the Belgrade team took control, finishing the opening period with a 15-point advantage (27:12).
Center Tyrique Matthew Davis emerged as a key player, excelling not only in scoring (he posted 16 points in the first half) but also in stellar defensive actions. Guard Carlik Jones also made a significant contribution, demonstrating confident play in transition attacks.
Despite their efforts, the Israeli team could not close the gap to a dangerous level. Only in the second half did Maccabi show some resilience, but the black-and-whites, led by Željko Obradović, regained control of the game.
Partizan’s victory over Maccabi strengthened their position in the standings and brought them one step closer to the EuroLeague playoffs.
“K.K. Partizan has always loved its own, respected others, sympathized in difficult times, and helped in every way possible. The club will never support insults against anyone and will fight for honesty and sportsmanship in every game. Partizan and only Partizan.”
This evening once again proved that basketball is not just a sport but a force capable of uniting people and inspiring good deeds.
