Yesterday it became known that law enforcement recognized the death of basketball player Janis Timma as suicide. However, new details of the tragedy are now emerging. On January, the legal company of Kati Gordon reported that the investigation continues despite the investigators’ statements about the completion of the check.

Janis Timma, a famous Latvian basketball player, was found dead on December 17, 2024, in the center of Moscow. According to preliminary data, he committed suicide. His body was discovered in the entrance of an apartment building. Next to him was a phone with a message on the screen saying “call Anna,” indicating his last wish before death. A few days after his death, it became known that Yanniss had divorced Russian singer Anna Sedokova.

The investigative authorities refused to initiate a criminal case regarding the athlete’s death, explaining this by procedural deadlines. Lawyer Ekaterina Gordon stated to RIA Novosti that the refusal was due to the fact that the investigation could not gather sufficient evidence to open a case. Nevertheless, she emphasized that the investigation continues.

“News on the case of Janis Timma. Currently, a forensic medical examination is still being conducted (do not believe false publications in the media that it has been completed), as well as a post-mortem psychological and psychiatric examination. Also, at our request, a technical examination of the phone is being conducted. We are waiting for the results,” the representatives of Kati Gordon’s legal company said in a statement.

Experts are examining the contents of the ex-husband’s phone of Anna Sedokova, as well as analyzing the psychological state of the basketball player before his death. Law enforcement believes that the reasons for the suicide may be related to personal problems and stress caused by the divorce from the singer.

Janis Timma played for several Russian clubs, including Zenit, UNICS, and Khimki, from 2015 to 2021. In 2015, he was named the best young player of the VTB United League. At the NBA draft in 2013, he was selected by the Memphis Grizzlies with the 60th overall pick. He played 68 matches for the Latvian national team. In 2024, he began playing for the Spanish basketball club Obradoiro.

The investigation into Janis Timma’s death continues, and it is too early to draw final conclusions. Lawyers insist on the need to conduct additional examinations to establish all the circumstances of the tragedy. The farewell ceremony for the basketball player took place on December 28 in Riga, but his former wife Anna Sedokova did not attend the ceremony.

The death of Janis Timma shocked the sports world and became the subject of widespread public attention. Everyone is waiting for the results of the examinations, which will help shed light on this tragic story.
