According to the NHL forecast, Alexander Ovechkin may break Wayne Gretzky’s historic record for the most goals in regular seasons as early as April 15, 2025. It was previously expected that this event would occur on April 12, 2025 during a match against “Columbus”, however, due to the current scoring rate of the Russian forward – 0.6 goals per game, the date has been moved to the game against “Islanders”.

As of now, Ovechkin has scored 886 goals, which is only 8 fewer than Gretzky’s absolute record (894). This game will be the penultimate one for “Washington” in the current 2024/2025 regular season.

Thus, in a few weeks, the global hockey community will witness a historic event – the surpassing of a nearly thirty-year milestone set by the legendary Canadian forward.
