The body of Latvian basketball player Janis Timma was found in central Moscow. The athlete was just 32 years old. The sad news has shaken the basketball community worldwide. His death occurred amidst the backdrop of a breakup with the famous singer Anna Sedakova, a former member of the Russian music group “VIA Gra.”

Timma began his career in Latvia, playing for teams such as Daugavpils Kraslava, DU Hansabanka, BA Riga, and other Latvian clubs. In the 2014-15 season, he made his debut in the BKT EuroCup with VEF Riga, followed by two seasons with the Russian club Zenit St Petersburg.

In the EuroLeague, Timma played for Baskonia Vitoria-Gasteiz, Olympiacos Piraeus, Khimki Moscow Region, and UNICS Kazan. Last season, he played for Darussafaka Istanbul and Monbus Obradoiro. Additionally, Timma represented Latvia on the international stage as part of the national team.

Clubs and former teammates have expressed their condolences. Olympiacos noted that they would always remember Timma for his kindness and smile. Baskonia extended their support to the player’s family and friends, while Zenit emphasized that this loss has deeply affected everyone who knew him.

A minute of silence will be held in memory of the athlete before EuroLeague and EuroCup games. Today, the EuroLeague features a match in Serbia between Partizan and the French team ASVEL.
